Every year, the Cathedral auditions boys for prospective chorister places, looking to select keen, bright boys with a good level of general intelligence, the beginnings of a voice, and some evidence of innate musical ability. Unlike many other Cathedrals, playing an instrument and reading music are not pre-requisite. After the initial probationary period, the Cathedral provides instrumental lessons, free of charge, in addition to the excellent day by day musical training in the Cathedral itself.
